You guys are getting played, and the NCAA is laughing at you guys all the way to the bank.
The only problem with that is that since the AFCA started tracking ARP rates amongst D1 schools, Temple under Al Golden made the biggest single turnaround in the stat's history.

But yeah, we're gonna cheat with him to get to win. That's all we do. I thought you'd be smarter than to jog out the Thug U reference, but oh well.

Shannon's not the martyr because Miami and it's fans don't care about graduating players, he's gone because he couldn't win. And if Gary Williams sucked it up just bad enough to get canned, I don't think you'd be trotting out the "Maryland gets what it deserves for firing a guy who graduates players" card. You'd be celebrating his career and gasping if anyone dared question Maryland's administration's reasons for canning him. You're a homer. It is what it is.

    Pot, meet kettle.

It isn't my fault you said Miami fired Shannon so they could cheat to win, only to ignore the fact that Golden's track record shows without question that he does indeed care about academics.

Get your facts right next time and I won't have to correct you.

Yep...we really hired a cheater like Double D said. His mother's an Italian immigrant...maybe he's in the mob? *gasp*

Hey--you're the one who said we fired Shannon so we could cheat and win. You're 100% right like you thought...nay...knew you were Double D. Golden is such a cheater.

HINT: A simple "my bad, I was wrong on this one and spoke before I knew what I was talking about" would end me dogging you out on this one.

HINT: A simple, I have to be right, I'm a baby with Miami Football, would make you look a lot better on this one. I and everyone else who read this thread knows I never said Golden cheats. Of course, you can try to twist words and imply things if you life. Feel free to carry on. This is the second time in this thread alone where you have gone bananas, and it's all because of Miami.

I guess those poor kids at Maryland don't deserve an education since all they did was follow Gary Williams' pleas to come and have 4 years of an informal tryout for the NBA. How corrupt and sad for those guys that they were duped in that fashion.

This is all very self-righteous of you, but the reality is there's nothing wrong with a kid playing D1 level football to get to the pros first and get an education second. When you're one of the best at what you do, you want to hurry up and start doing it as a professional ASAP. Nothing wrong with that.
thats pretty low, taking a shot at NAIA schools. but since you are totally wrong about that, we can let it slide.
Sure, more D1 athletes play in the NFL than NAIA kids, but its foolish to say stuff like that when you **** well know how many small college kids are in the NFL and NBA. The odds of winning the lottery are in the hundreds of millions. 4-5 NAIA or Div. III kids make the NFL every year, same with the NBA.

i guess Jerry Rice should have just given up, he didnt get a big time D1 offer. if he followed your logic, that he had a better chance of winning the lottery, maybe he never gave it his all and we lose out on seeing the greatest WR (and greatest football player of the modern era IMO).

I dont agree with pvfan's point, I believe that once you start punishing schools for trying to win you punish everybody, including regular students.
You think Alabama could afford all the nice equipment and stuff without a football team that generates serious revenue?
It comes down to the individual kid. Not all 5* recruits are just in college to waste time til the NFL comes calling. Kids like Myron Rolle (oxford), Greg McElroy (Rhodes scholar), etc... all come to college to play and to learn.
So why punish the 30-40% of athletes who really want an education because the rest dont? The NCAA has a fine setup. Kids have to stay eligible, they have to accumulate credits, etc....
Sure they are some that abuse the system and some coaches who abuse the system to get those kids in school and keep those eligible, but once you get rid of the education, you'll start seeing homeless former NFL players, etc... These kids who stay four years and graduate work hard to get there, on and off the field. Im sorry that some of us realize that yes, the big time D1 level is FULL of cheating, ethical dilemmas, abuses of the system, etc... but that kids are in school, taking classes, at least keeping the appearance of being a student.

For every one Cam Newton, there are 100 Greg McElroy's, kids who want to graduate and do more than play football.

and after reading this thread, can we all agree that im not always the most obnoxious poster on here? lol

If you think the NCAA has a fine setup you are crazier than I thought you were. Football and basketball at the BCS schools make the NCAA what it is, a money hungry organization that seeks to do nothing more than prostitute roughly 10,000 kids. The kids see it so they cheat the system knowing the NCAA will do nothing because they are their cash cow. All the while, people like Biggin and Cane who have nothing more invested into the actual university than some subscription on a rivals forum at the mouth over the signing of an 18 year old African American youth. I've said many times I'm in the minority on this and I know that. However, there is no way you will ever get me to come out and say this is a great system that we should all love and enjoy.

Re: For those that care...(Miami related)

so what do you suggest doing? you act as if every student at every school has no interest whatsoever in academics. thats simply not true.
There are thousands and thousands of kids every year that play D1 football; only 255 get drafted.

you act as if the kids get nothing in return. Free schooling, free boarding, stipends, a DEGREE if they choose, all the a$s they can get it, tons of support from fans and boosters, etc....
Plus the fact that these kids who choose to go to big time schools have a great shot of making the NFL. Its not as if kids who choose to go to Texas or Oregon get the raw end of the deal; they get all the above perks plus the best opportunity to make it to the next level.

the NCAA is far from perfect, but the system is not terrible.

and nothing more invested than a couple dollars to Rivals (which is BS anyway, Rivals gives nothing to the schools. Buying merchandise from the university, going to games, straight donations, etc.. all donate to the schools) is the big crock of ****.

if you really believe all I have invested in Bama's success is a few dollars you are the crazy one.
Im more emotionally invested in the success of Alabama than most are about professional teams. During the fall, my live almost revolves around Alabama football. You can call it sad, say it means nothing because I did not attend UA, but to me, and millions of people across the country, the bond between a college team and a fan means more than any dollar amount or the bond between a fan and a pro team.

The NCAA has you right where they want you.

FWIW, I only said the major BCS schools for football and basketball are like this. Most NCAA schools even at the DI level are perfectly fine. The word student athlete and the SEC when it comes to football and basketball should never be mentioned though.
